About Us

After years of working in the surf industry, Bali Retreats grew organically after a chance encounter in 2002. Jon, the company’s director, was a surf guide in Samoa working for Savaii Surfaris and Atoll Travel, when the owner of Micks Place Bali, a gorgeous boutique hotel in Bingin Beach, heard of his reputation as great guide and offered him a stint as manager of his hotel. Perfect timing as Lorraine (Jon’s wife and manager of Bali Retreats), former head women’s designer at Billabong, needed a break from the manic rag trade. The time in Bali was spent rejuvenating with daily massages and yoga.

Bali Retreats was born in the spare bedroom with daughter Leilani being juggled on one knee. When we first started out we had underground surf favourites like Mick’s Place Bali, as well as a few private luxury villas in Bingin, which has become our second home. We have quickly grown to a busy office environment with a dedicated team of employees.

As our name suggests we specialise in Bali and Indonesia. Our core business is boutique hotels and villas in great surf locations all over Bali. With numerous years experience in Bali, we pride ourselves on the intimate knowledge we have of the destinations we book and ensure that you have all the tips to enhance your holiday – where to shop, great spots for a little pampering and the hot bars and restaurants that you just have to try.

Although our focus is on unique accommodation, as a full service travel agent we can also book all the mainstream resorts throughout Bali and the many islands of Indonesia, as well as flights, travel insurance and much more.
